Mark Mitchell, founder of A Cut Above Carpentry and General Contracting, brings over eight years of expertise in bespoke carpentry and sustainable construction. His journey began in a university Social Entrepreneurship class, where he discovered how businesses could serve people and the planet. This realization inspired Mark to focus on sustainable construction practices and developing his expertise in general contracting, building not just homes but value—structures that marry timeless craftsmanship with environmental stewardship.
Mark’s technical skills and learning foundations were laid at BCIT’s renowned Foundation Program, where he mastered concrete formwork, wall framing, and roof construction. After completing advanced training and earning his Red Seal certification, he honed his skills with custom builders, tackling intricate projects that demanded precision and creativity. These experiences deepened his appreciation for detail-oriented craftsmanship, now a hallmark of Cut Above Carpentry.
Mark’s philosophy stems from lessons learned on the lacrosse field, where he competed at a high level. The discipline and attention to detail required in sports have seamlessly translated into his professional life, where even minor elements receive his meticulous care. His commitment to sustainability, elegance, and community impact defines his work, making every creation truly a cut above.

Trevor Lanyon

Lead Carpenter with Decades of Expertise

Trevor Lanyon has been integral to Cut Above Carpentry since its inception, bringing over 25 years of seasoned expertise to every project. As Lead Carpenter, Trevor’s extensive knowledge and unwavering commitment to quality make him a trusted authority in crafting structures that combine function, durability, elegance and value.
Trevor’s career began in the late 1990s with leaky condominium repairs, a role that sharpened his attention to detail and honed his problem-solving skills. He went on to spend two decades in the glass industry, mastering residential and commercial installations throughout Vancouver. This diverse background equipped Trevor with a unique perspective on construction, enabling him to excel in various projects, from bespoke builds to seamless custom renovations.
Known for his approachable demeanour and meticulous work ethic, Trevor ensures that every client experience is as smooth as it is professional. Whether constructing a custom deck, remodelling an interior space, or tackling intricate repairs, Trevor combines technical precision with an artist’s eye for craftsmanship, delivering results that exceed expectations.
Trevor channels his creativity and passion for detail off the job site into hobbies like fishing, golf, camping, and restoring collectibles.
